Have you had poor experiences from a previous dentist? Was your first impression of dentists and dental offices severely negative, making it nearly impossible for you to get the care you need? Do you have a family member with a mental illness or behavioral disorder that makes it difficult for them to sit still in the dental chair? With the help of oral conscious sedation dentistry, it doesn’t have to be an impossible task to get your basic checkups and cleanings completed. If you suffer from moderate to severe levels of dental anxiety, give our dental office a call!
Oral conscious sedation is taken orally via a pill, ideally several hours before the treatment occurs. This gives the sedative enough time to make you feel relaxed. Once you arrive, you should be prepared to receive dental care, whether it’s as simple as a dental cleaning or as complex as a crown placement or root canal therapy. During the appointment, you’ll still be awake and able to receive commands from the dentist. You’ll also be able to alert the dentist of your comfort levels, allowing us to make adjustments as needed. Keep in mind that having a designated ride to and from our dental office is necessary. Make sure to allow the effects of the sedative to wear off (which can take as long as 12 hours) before resuming normal activities.
